The standard gear ratio’s gave a very high top gear which may well be suitable for a road motorcycle but of little use for racing.

 

The Nova top gear pair lowers fifth gear to make the gap between forth and fifth close and more suitable for racing.

 

The Yamaha XT660 is a  popular engine used in Supermono racing and the Nova 5th gear upgrade is an worthwhile upgrade for road racing.
