SupermonoApril 2008
We are continuing to develop a range of transmission parts for the 4 stroke motorcross engines being converted for use in supermono racing. Close ratio road race style 5 speed gear clusters have been produced for the CRF450 and YZF450 engines. Higher ratio primary gears for the CRF engine are now available. A 6 speed gearbox for the CRF450 has successfully completed its first meeting, being placed 6th and 4th in the British Supermono Championship rounds at the Snetterton race track on 11th and 12th April. |
ManufactureProduct manufacture is carried out on small modern industrial site on the outskirts of Crowland, near Peterborough, UK. The workshops are equipped with the following:
The CNC machines comprise of a Daewoo Lynx chucking lathe, Two XYZ 560VMC machining centers one with 4th axis, and a Kryle VMC535. The three machining centres are fitted with 16 position tool changers. All the CNC machines are linked to computers for DNC machining Software used for CNC machining is Open Mind Hypermill 3 axis Gear ManufactureThe manufacture of gears is mainly with EN36 steel, of British Manufacture. The gear blanks are turned on the CNC lathe, the teeth are then cut either by hobbing or shaping, depending on the design of the gear. This is followed by milling of the dogs and lightning holes. The gears are then sent for heat treatment and on return are finished by grinding. Aluminium componentsAluminium components, either castings or billet, are generally machined the machining centres. Aluminium specifications used are NS8, HE30, and LM25. Following machining and inspection, the components are usually either hard or decoratively anodised. |
