BMW TwinThe BMW engine does not have a primary reduction from the crankshaft to gearbox as is typical in most engine configurations. This makes overall gearing a problem, particularly for small wheel sidecar outfits, with this in mind a 6.67% increase between the engine and gearbox has been incorporated.
The standard gearbox ratio’s are unsuitable for serious racing and have been changed, as shown in the chart, to further enhance the racing application all gears have three undercut engagement dogs. Supplied completely assembled requiring only shaft support bearings.

Not part of our original brief but it soon became apparent that this is one of the area's which required a serious engineering solution.
Whilst cutting and sleeving may be acceptable to the owner builder, it is not an option for those wishing to sell complete outfits i.e. the Windle chassis kit.
We therefore undertook to design and manufacture a shaft arrangement. The most important part being a suitable, available, Universal joint. Once this was decided on, a drive flange and shaft were designed to allow Terry to complete his design.
The proximity of the driver to the drive shaft requires that only the best available material and heat treatment are used, in this case it is the same as F1 car drive shafts with full certification. The length is 493mm measure from the gearbox output flange to the start of the taper into the rear wheel drive unit.
